Ghanaian Dancehall and Reggae artiste, Stonebwoy has signed a deal with Universal Music Group.

He becomes the second Ghana-based artiste after Singer and Songwriter, Cina Soul to be signed by one of the world’s largest music companies.

The label will market, promote and distribute the works of the “Enku Lenu” hitmaker around the world.

The deal was announced at an event in Nigeria on Tuesday, July 17 to officially launch the company and introduce the team to manage the operations of the company in West Africa.

Veteran Music Executive, Ezegozie Eze Jnr., will head the team and will report to Sipho Dlamini, managing director of Universal Music South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Eze stated that the launch of the company was a “huge statement of belief in our local music talent” and its “ambition to help our artists reach the widest global audience.”

The deal adds to Stonebwoy’s career highlights in the past year.

His 2017 album “Epistles of Mama” peaked at number 13 on the Billboard World Charts. It is the first album by a Ghana-based Ghanaian artiste to achieve that record based on sales compiled by Nielsen Music.

Stonebwoy became the second Ghanaian Grammy nominee after an album he was featured on earned a nomination at the 2018 Grammys.

Stonebwoy has been the only Ghanaian and African artiste to perform at the 2018 SummerJam, an European Reggae and Dancehall festival.

After posting a long rant on his Facebook page (allegedly a repost) outlining why he deserved this year’s BET Award, the BET team seems to think the same as the Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy is among the list of Africans nominated for this year’s Best International Act.

Stonebwoy was lat nominated for the Award in 2015 when he scooped the gong. This year he is facing a tough competition from other African artist. The other artist nominated for the award are South Africa’s AKA, the young Nasty C and Babes Wodumo other artist from Nigeria include Wizkid, Davido, Tekno and Mr. Eazi.

The prestigious award last year went to South African DJ, Black Coffee although people had hyped Wizkid as the winner. It is yet to be seen if he will scoop the award this year after dropping a bag of international collaborations from Drake to Wale.

Stonebwoy has also been doing great with a feature on the Morgan Heritage’s upcoming album Avrekadabra.

He was with his Lets Talk About It collaborator ExQ who said the Military Touch Movement was now committed to promoting the youngstar, “right now we are focusing on promoting [Nutty O] as you know I released an album and I am trying to push the songs on it,” the Bhachura hit maker said.

Nutty O has been shining with his two single Lets Talk About It and Bugatti enjoying a fair rotation on Trace Africa, the new Trace channel which focus on African music. His use of English in songs has been criticized by some Zimdancehall fans, but it seems to be playing in his favor now.

Although he failed to win the Artist of The Year, Ghanaian dancehall star, Stonebwoy who has been making noise in Africa was the winner of both the Best Reggae/ Dancehall Artist and Song Awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) 2017 held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

His 2016 hit People Dey managed to bang the Best Dancehall Song Award at the event beating other stars such as Rudeboy Ranking, Gallaxy and Ebony.

While still celebrating the award for the song another for Best Reggae/Dancehall act came his way. Other great dancehall/reggae acts who were also nominated for the same award are Ras Kuuku, Samini, Ebony, Rudebwoy and MzVee.
